Ikpeazu Begins Diplomatic Engagements in Spain, Visits Papal Nuncio
Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Spain, Ambassador Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has commenced his official diplomatic engagements with a courtesy visit to the Apostolic Nuncio to Spain and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Archbishop Pierro Pioppo.
The meeting, held at the Apostolic Nunciature in Madrid, marked Ambassador Ikpeazu’s first official courtesy call since presenting his credentials. He said the choice of the Papal Nuncio as his first host was both strategic and symbolic, given Archbishop Pioppo’s role as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. The ambassador also noted that he sought the Archbishop’s prayers and blessings as he begins his assignment of representing Nigeria in Spain.
Speaking after the visit, Ikpeazu said his mission goes beyond conventional diplomacy to promoting a positive image of Nigeria and attracting stronger international partnerships. He described Nigeria as a country endowed with abundant natural resources, a vibrant entrepreneurial culture and a youthful population capable of driving economic growth and innovation.
According to the former Abia State governor, discussions focused on global peace, human dignity, unity among nations and the need for stronger international cooperation in addressing contemporary global challenges. He stressed that diplomacy should be anchored on mutual respect, justice, equality and shared responsibility, regardless of race, religion or nationality.
Ambassador Ikpeazu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence, sustainable development and productive partnerships with Spain and the wider international community. He added that his ongoing diplomatic engagements in Madrid are aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding opportunities for cooperation between both countries.
