Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the 12 newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service to justify their appointments through exemplary leadership, professionalism and selfless service.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, Fubara described the appointments as a strategic move to strengthen the administrative structure of government and improve the implementation of policies aimed at accelerating the state’s development.

He reminded the newly appointed officials that they had attained the pinnacle of the civil service and must demonstrate integrity, competence and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities.

According to the governor, Permanent Secretaries play a critical role in translating government policies into tangible results and must therefore remain committed to serving the interests of Rivers State and the nation.

“My charge to you is to do right to every man and woman, do right to Rivers State, and do right to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Your appointment should help this administration achieve its objective of moving Rivers State forward,” he said.

Fubara urged the officials to ensure fairness, patriotism and accountability in all their decisions, noting that the effectiveness of government programmes depends largely on the quality of leadership within the civil service.

He cautioned against complacency, weak supervision and bureaucratic delays, warning that inefficiency at the leadership level could hinder government performance and deny residents the benefits of good governance.

The governor also stressed that their appointments should be viewed as an opportunity to build lasting institutions rather than as personal rewards, adding that their contributions should lay a solid foundation for future administrations.

He further encouraged the Permanent Secretaries to promote transparency, discipline and cordial working relationships with political office holders and other civil servants to enhance teamwork and improve service delivery across ministries.

Expressing confidence in their wealth of experience, Fubara said the new appointees were well-positioned to drive reforms and strengthen the efficiency of the Rivers State Civil Service.

He congratulated the officials and wished them success in the discharge of their duties.

The newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries are Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, Dr. Fortune Akpila, Dr. Promise Oguzie, Mrs. Ibisoye Lolomari Nwankwo, Mrs. Ibiyemiebara Joseph Uzoma, Mrs. Mercy Dagogo Iboroma, Dr. Wachukwu Vincent Worgu, Mr. Ifeanyi Anthony Ogboma, Dr. Mina Gogo Jim-Jaja, Mr. Henry Uzor, Mr. Chimemum Mpi and Dr. Mina Ikuru.
