Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has charged members of Nigeria Computer Society to channel their skills and knowledge towards the development of the country and not on negative venture

Governor Fubara gave the charge while speaking at a dinner organized for delegates of the 2024 International Conference of the Nigeria Computer Society in Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday.

The governor noted that as the world is tilting towards artificial intelligence which is part of computer management, the society should endeavour to deploy their knowledge to positive areas that will impact on the development of the country rather than do things that will paint the nation in bad light, asking them to always engage in legitimate ventures that will earn them genuine income.

“So, our appeal as a government is that the best brains that you put together, the inventions that you are making, and the improvement that you want to make, please, let it all be for the betterment of our country. We are not going to run away from this country, we must put our hands together to make it what we want.”

He stated that his administration adopted computer technology in all operations of the State which improved the state’s internally generated revenue IGR and helped tremendously as the State does not borrow to execute projects, promising to mandate the State’s Civil Service Commission to ensure that those in computer based profession working with the commission must be certified before they are further promoted.

Governor Fubara assured the Society that the doors of his administration are open and will be willing to host another conference of the Society whenever the leadership of the Society wants to do so, charging the delegates to dis-countenance whatever negative media reports they read as the State is peaceful and calm, adding that his government is working hard to add value to the State.

“You can see how peaceful the State is. Even those people who try to cause problems God has a way of punishing them. When they try to do anything God will find a way to bring their plans against them. And it is only because our hands are clean, and we have never allowed this administration to be associated with any form of violence or any plan to undo anybody. Our major interest is to better this State and nothing else.”

In his remarks, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ovy Chinedum Chukwuma said that Governor Siminalayi Fubara as an ICT friendly governor approved the dinner for the delegates to show his commitment in the deployment of technology for the smooth running of the State.

He said the exemplary leadership of the governor in the adoption of technology has helped in boosting the state’s internally generated revenue and helped in the smooth operations in all ministries, departments and agencies as well as payment platforms of the State including using same for recruitment processes.

“So, today we are here to celebrate the work and contributions of ICT to the development of our nation and driving of the economy. I believe that because you made your little contribution to the success of the conference, the outcome is something that the value chains will be added not only to the economy of the State, but to the country at large.”

On his part, the President of Nigeria Computer Society Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu lauded Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the support given to the society and for his commitment to the development of Rivers State through the use of technology.
