Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday joined his counterparts from across Southern Nigeria at the joint meeting of the Southern Governors’ Forum and the Southern Traditional Rulers Council held in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
The meeting, hosted by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, took place at the Governor’s Residence and brought together governors and top traditional rulers from the 17 southern states to deliberate on regional development, security, and economic cooperation.
Governor Fubara’s participation reaffirmed Rivers State’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among southern states, especially in areas of economic integration, security coordination, and regional stability.
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti; Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru; and Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, were among the governors in attendance. Others included Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji; Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; and Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was represented by his deputy. The governors of Osun, Edo, and Cross River—Senator Ademola Adeleke, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Bassey Otu—also sent their deputies.
Discussions at the meeting focused on reviewing the region’s security situation, expanding economic collaboration, enhancing inter-state partnerships, aligning infrastructure development, managing shared resources, and improving synergy among security agencies.
