2027: APC Will Win Abia Governorship, Sweep Legislative Seats – Kalu
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the Abia State governorship and secure sweeping victories in the National and State Assembly elections in 2027.
Kalu made the declaration on Saturday in Abuja when APC stakeholders from Abia State presented him with Expression of Interest and Governorship Nomination Forms, urging him to contest the state’s top seat.

Receiving the forms, the Deputy Speaker thanked the stakeholders for the show of confidence and assured them of the party’s readiness to deliver victory across board.
“I want to thank you for bringing this form. I assure you that the story will change in Abia State. We will work with the party to make sure that happens,” he said.
He noted that the growing interest of aspirants across elective positions under the APC platform reflects increasing acceptance of the party’s ideals in the state.
“We will not allow this dream to die. We will fight till the end. We will win the House of Assembly seats, the House of Representatives, sweep the Senate seats, and win the governorship. We will also deliver victory for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Kalu added.
The Deputy Speaker, however, said he would announce his formal decision on the governorship bid in due course, stressing that his immediate priority remains mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The most important thing for me is to ensure that the reforms of the President are visible and that the people of the South-East, starting from Abia State, stand solidly behind him. Every other thing is secondary,” he said.
Earlier, APC stakeholders from the three senatorial districts of Abia State—North, Central, and South—took turns to urge Kalu to heed the call to contest, citing his leadership qualities and developmental strides.
Speaking on behalf of Abia North, Chief James Uko Igwe, SAN, described Kalu’s performance as Deputy Speaker as outstanding, noting that his record of service and commitment to development made him the ideal candidate for the governorship.
“There is no better time than now for you to bring your statesmanship, unity, and consensus-building to the state level. We want the impact you have made nationally to be replicated in Abia,” he said.
For Abia Central, retired Major General Jack Nwaogbu credited Kalu with revitalising the APC in the state, saying his leadership had reunited party members and restored grassroots confidence.
He added that Kalu’s ability to unite political actors positions him as the right person to lead the state and deliver good governance.
Also speaking for Abia South, former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike, said Kalu had demonstrated capacity through tangible development initiatives, empowerment programmes, and effective representation.
Azubuike stressed the need for strong leadership to mobilise support for the APC and President Tinubu in the South-East, expressing confidence that Kalu possesses the capacity to lead that effort in Abia State.
The presentation of the nomination forms signals growing momentum within the APC in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
