Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, setting up a potential contest against the incumbent senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Bello announced his decision during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he met with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders from the senatorial district.
Addressing the gathering, the former governor said he had accepted calls from supporters and community leaders urging him to seek election to the National Assembly, expressing readiness to serve and represent the interests of the people at the federal level.
“I accept to run for the Senate in 2027,” Bello declared.
The visit attracted prominent political figures and community leaders from across the district. Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, was also present at the event, alongside other party stalwarts and opinion leaders.
Bello served as governor of Kogi State from 2016 to 2024 and remains a key political figure within the state.
The Kogi Central Senatorial District is currently represented by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who won the seat in the 2023 general elections. The declaration by Bello signals the early build-up of political activities ahead of the 2027 polls.
