The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate for Abia South, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has described his overwhelming victory in the party’s senatorial primary election as a reflection of the confidence and trust the people have in his leadership.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV yesterday, following the conclusion of the APC primaries nationwide, Erondu Jnr said the wide margin recorded in the election showed he remained deeply connected to the grassroots and accessible to his constituents.

The lawmaker, who currently represents Obingwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, defeated three major contenders in the race, including former Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Paul Ikonne, Dr. Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, and Blessing Nwagba.

According to the result announced by the Chairman of the APC Primary Election Panel, Erasmus Cishark, Erondu Jnr polled 15,982 votes to emerge winner, while his closest rival secured 4,556 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, the APC candidate said the victory belonged to the people of Abia South who freely expressed their support through the direct primary process adopted by the party.

“The margin clearly shows the people’s confidence in my leadership and accessibility. It is about being close to the people and understanding their needs,” he said.

Erondu Jnr also lauded the conduct of the APC primaries across the country, describing the process as transparent and credible despite isolated complaints from some aspirants.

According to him, contest outcomes naturally come with mixed feelings, especially for those who invested heavily in their campaigns, but stressed that party members must embrace sportsmanship and respect the will of the people.

The former Chairman, Obingwa Local Government Area (LGA), further commended President Bola Tinubu’s emergence as the APC presidential candidate, describing it as a testament to the confidence the party and Nigerians have in the President’s leadership and performance.

On his legislative achievements, Erondu Jnr highlighted motions and bills he has sponsored in the Abia State House of Assembly, particularly a motion he moved in 2023 calling for the suspension of electricity tariff hikes.

He explained that the motion, which was unanimously adopted by the House and forwarded to the National Assembly, contributed to the eventual suspension of the electricity tariff increase for one year.

This, he said is in addition to the three people-oriented bills he has sponsored.

The APC candidate assured constituents of quality representation if elected to the Senate in 2027, promising to continue championing policies that directly impact the welfare of the people.
