Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered N2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds during a tactical operation aimed at dismantling a kidnapping syndicate in the state.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, followed the successful rescue of a victim who was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command immediately launched an intensive manhunt after receiving information about the abduction, deploying intelligence assets and tactical operatives to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.
The police disclosed that sustained surveillance, intelligence gathering and operational pressure on the criminal gang eventually led to the safe release of the victim on June 18 without any harm.
Following the rescue, security operatives intensified efforts to track down members of the kidnapping network.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit traced some members of the gang to their hideout within the state. However, upon sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest, leading to a gun battle.
During the exchange of gunfire, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries.
A search conducted after the operation led to the recovery of a single-barrel firearm, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and N2.2 million cash suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and uncover the full extent of the gang’s operations.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and violent crime.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and proactive security measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state.
