Army Arrests Police Sergeant, 18 Others Over Pipeline Vandalism in Abia
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 143 Battalion have arrested a police sergeant and 18 other suspects over alleged pipeline vandalism in the Nkwonta axis of Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended while attempting to load stolen underground pipeline materials onto a heavy-duty trailer.

One of the suspects, Sergeant Daniel Emeka, is said to be attached to the Ovim Division of the Nigeria Police Force.
Others arrested include a truck driver, a bus driver, a conductor, 12 loaders and two panel beaters or metal cutters.
The suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The arrest comes days after the Executive Mayor of Isuikwuato LGA, Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, warned against the destruction and theft of public infrastructure in the area.

Reacting to the development, Ekeke commended the Commanding Officer of the 143 Battalion, Lt. Col. A. M. Rabe; the team leader, Lt. F. A. Bashir; and other personnel involved in the operation.
He described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb vandalism and safeguard public and private infrastructure across the local government area.

The mayor’s commendation followed renewed concerns over the theft and destruction of critical infrastructure, which can undermine public services and cause significant economic losses.

The suspects are expected to face further investigation by the NSCDC, while their alleged involvement in the crime remains subject to the outcome of the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
