Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima has commended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, as he inaugurated the newly completed 33.5-kilometre Elele–Egbeda–Omoku Dual Carriageway.

The Vice President, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration in Rivers State on Thursday, said the project underscored the importance of quality infrastructure in driving economic growth and improving the lives of citizens.

The road traverses Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas, linking several communities and opening up a major economic corridor within the state.

Shettima described the project as a significant contribution to the expansion of Nigeria’s road network, noting that improved road infrastructure would ease the movement of people and goods, support commerce and enhance access to markets, schools, workplaces and healthcare facilities.

He recalled that the route had previously posed serious challenges to motorists and residents due to its poor condition, deep gullies and security concerns.

The Vice President praised Governor Fubara for transforming the once difficult corridor into a modern dual carriageway, equipped with facilities expected to improve safer movement, including at night.

Governor Fubara said the project was designed to improve connectivity among communities and stimulate economic activities along the route.

He also noted that the road would strengthen security and contribute to efforts aimed at protecting economic assets, particularly within the oil-producing areas connected by the corridor.

The inauguration forms part of the Rivers State Government’s ongoing programme of commissioning major infrastructure projects across the state.

The 33.5-kilometre dual carriageway is expected to reduce travel difficulties and provide a major boost to residents, farmers, traders and other businesses operating along the Elele–Egbeda–Omoku axis.
