Gov Fubara Inaugurates 105-Bed Omoku Zonal Hospital
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has inaugurated a 105-bed Zonal Hospital in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, with a charge to residents to protect the facility against vandalism and ensure its sustainability.

Speaking during the inauguration on Friday, Governor Fubara described the hospital as a significant addition to the state’s healthcare infrastructure and a major investment in the wellbeing of the people of the Orashi region.
He said his administration remained committed to expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare across Rivers State, stressing that a healthy population was essential to productivity and sustainable development.

The governor explained that the Omoku facility is one of three zonal hospitals established in Rivers West Senatorial District, alongside those in Ahoada and Degema. He noted that the Ahoada hospital had already been inaugurated, while work on the Degema facility had reached the furnishing stage.
According to him, the Omoku Zonal Hospital will provide medical services to residents of Omoku, Egbema, Ndoni and neighbouring communities, including parts of the Ahoada axis.

Fubara urged traditional rulers, community leaders and youths in the area to take collective responsibility for the protection of the hospital, warning against theft, vandalism and other acts capable of damaging public infrastructure.
He emphasised that those entrusted with safeguarding the facility would be expected to account for any deliberate destruction of public assets.

The governor noted that the strategic location of the hospital within the state’s oil and gas-producing corridor made the project particularly important, considering the healthcare needs of both residents and workers in the region.
He also assured the people that his administration would consider other requests presented by the community before the expiration of its tenure.

In his remarks, the Oba of Ogba Land, His Eminence, Dr. Nwachukwu Obuoha Obi III, commended Governor Fubara for strengthening healthcare infrastructure and completing major road projects in the area.
The traditional ruler particularly praised the completion of the 33.5-kilometre Elele-Egbeda-Omoku dual carriageway, describing it as a long-awaited project that had improved transportation, enhanced security and restored confidence among communities along the corridor.

He said the establishment of the Omoku Zonal Hospital would help address the growing healthcare needs of residents of the oil-producing region, where hydrocarbon-related activities could pose health challenges.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Nwachukwu, said the 105-bed facility was designed to serve residents of surrounding local government areas, including Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Emohua and parts of Ikwerre.

He added that the sustained investment of the Fubara administration in the health sector had continued to improve healthcare delivery across Rivers State.
