A 55-year-old motorist has escaped unhurt after a train struck his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged.

The collision occurred on Friday, October 9, as the train travelled towards Agege. Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and security personnel rescued the driver and cleared the wreckage from the tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey.

Although no casualties were reported, the incident highlights the potentially devastating consequences of railway-crossing accidents.

For the motorist, survival came at the cost of a badly damaged vehicle. For other road users, the incident is a reminder that caution around active railway lines can mean the difference between life and death.

Authorities should establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and reinforce safety measures at railway crossings to prevent a similar incident.
