Two-year-old Rescued As Court Jails Three For Trafficking

A two-year-old boy, Wisdom Emmanuel Achua, has become the centre of a child-trafficking case in Cross River State, where three men have been convicted and sentenced for abducting and transporting him for exploitation.

The Federal High Court in Calabar convicted Felix Iorlumun, 18, Silas Shie, 19, and Samuel Moses, 27, after they pleaded guilty to the charges.

The child was reportedly taken from Bunyia community in Boki Local Government Area to Mbube community in Ogoja, with the intention of transporting him to Benue State.

Community vigilantes intercepted the suspects and alerted the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which handled the investigation and prosecution.

The judgment, delivered on October 7, 2026, imposed prison terms and fines on the convicts.

While the convictions mark a significant step towards justice, the case underscores the vulnerability of young children who cannot defend themselves or explain what has happened to them.

Beyond punishment, effective child protection requires stronger community vigilance, prompt reporting of suspicious movements involving children and sustained efforts to dismantle trafficking networks.
