Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, has disclosed that there is no plans to cede any part the state to Akwa-Ibom.

He disclosed this when the people of Azumini Ndoki in Ukwa East Local Government Area paid him a visit.

Engr. Emetu charged them to refrain from acts capable of hindering the ongoing road construction in their community, maintaining that Abia State government has been notified and is fully involved.

He expressed dismay and angst at the fact that he previously had a meeting with some delegates of Azumini, trying to allay their fears of annexation of a part of their community into Akwa Ibom.

He warned not to constitute hindrance to the ongoing road construction project linking Uzo-nta  Azumini to Akwa-Ibom state.

In his word: “Abia state government has had discussion with Akwa Ibom government on the road construction and that the project construction company has no plan of annexing any part of Abia State “.

“It is the boundary council that has the duty to annex an area”.

He explained that Akwa-Ibom Government has been so generous to fix that road because their neighbouring local government into Abia state is not accessible due to bad road.

In addition, he noted that 90 per cent of the road the present government met were not accessible and that they are making serious effort to fix them, hence any opportunity that comes at a platter of gold is embraced.

He informed them that Abia state government will deploy ‘Operation Crush’, into Azumini to make sure that the project sees the light of the day, while reminding them that Akwa Ibom state government is still based on agreement paying compensation to any person, whose land or crops were destroyed in the cause of the road construction.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Commander, Cmdr Macdonald Ubah (rtd) assured the delegates from Azumini Ndoki that the government of Abia state cannot allow another state to take from them what is rightfully theirs.

Earlier, one of the delegates from Azumini, Barr. Fidelis Nnah, while reacting to the Deputy Governor’s speech noted that they were fulfilled that the number two citizen of Abia state gave them audience and also to his detailed explanation on Abia Government’s stand on the road construction by Akwa Ibom state.

He, however, pointed out that Azumini as a community, had never kicked against it , rather they wanted to be sure that there is a written agreement between Abia state and Akwa Ibom State on the road project to avoid future boundary dispute.
