The Chairman People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State Chapter, Elder Abraham Amah has blasted the member representing Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Abuja, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, stating that he is an ingrate that lacks contentment.

The Abia PDP boss who disclosed this recently during his visit to PDP stakeholders in Akwete-Ndoki, Ukwa-East and Ogwe, Ukwa-West respectively, revealed that the Federal Lawmaker used to be a serial failure, until he joined their party – PDP in 2023 and won convincingly.

He recalled that Rep. Nkwonta had contested for the federal House of Representatives elections, which he occupies now with the former Senate President, H.E. Adolphus Wabara in 1992 and failed; contested for Abia Governor, Abia South Senatorial seats and also failed woefully.

He said that Rep. Nkwonta, even with his wealth could not win any elections in the past but contested with PDP in 2023 and won.

He expressed regret that barely one year after Nkwonta assumed office, he dumped the party that gave him winning for All Progressive Congress (APC), adding that Karma will catch up with him.

He charged the people of the area to take back their seat from Hon. Nkwonta come 2027, insisting that the lawmaker cannot be trusted.

Contributing, an elder statesman from Ukwa-East LGA, Chief Reginald Ezenta assured the party Chairman that the PDP is still intact in the area despite the exit of the federal lawmaker.

He alleged that the Federal lawmaker had lobbied him with N1 Million to defect with him to APC, which he declined.

Chief Ezenta, said that PDP has never lost elections in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West since inception and would not lose elections in 2027 despite the exit of Hon. Chris Nkwonta.

In his remark, the PDP Chairman, Ukwa-West Chapter, Hon. Ben Nwachi also decried the defection of federal Lawmaker to APC, adding that it was uncalled for, owing to the support PDP gave him in 2023 polls.

He assured the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, that PDP would recover their seat in 2027 elections.

In his remark, the former Deputy Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly (ABHA), Rt. Hon. Ngozi Ulunwa, also expressed regret over the lawmaker’s defection, insisting that PDP will win again in 2027.

Meanwhile, one PDP stalwart, Chief Uche Nwulu, decried that the Ukwa Federal Constituency seat that is meant to be rotational, has remained in Ukwa-East for almost 20 years, expressing hope that Ukwa-West would produce the next Federal House of Representatives member come 2027 polls to ensure justice and equity prevail.

A source that pleaded anonymity with our reporter, alleged that Rep. Nkwonta induced former Chairman, Abia State Oil Producing Areas Commission (ASOPADEC), Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley, Mr. Sunday Uche Aja among others with N3Million each to join him in APC, while other party members got N1Million each for the same offer.

The immediate past PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, the member representing Ukwa-East in ABHA, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, member representing Ukwa-West State constituency in ABHA, Hon. Goddy Adiele, former chairman ASOPADEC, Barr. Henry Chilaka, Chief S.P. Ogbonna, among other dignitaries were present at the events.

Efforts made to reach the lawmaker; Hon. Chris Nkwonta on his mobile phone proved abortive as he could not take several calls put across to him.
