NCDC Reports 2 More Suspected Ebola Cases, Clears Rivers Patient
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two additional suspected cases of Ebola virus disease, while confirming that a suspected case investigated in Rivers State tested negative.
The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, disclosed this on Sunday, October 25, 2026, during a media briefing, as health authorities intensified surveillance and contact tracing following Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola infection.
Reports by TheCable and Premium Times indicated that the agency was also monitoring 53 primary contacts linked to the confirmed case, including healthcare workers, members of the patient’s household and individuals involved in her medical care.
Idris stressed that the two newly identified cases remained suspected cases and should not be treated as confirmed infections.
He also clarified that the suspected case investigated in Rivers State tested negative for Ebola, distinguishing it from the confirmed infection in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Nigeria confirmed its first case of Ebola disease in the current outbreak on October 20, 2026, after a woman who had travelled from Uganda tested positive at a private hospital in Abuja. She was subsequently isolated and placed under medical care.
The NCDC has continued contact tracing and surveillance to identify people who may have been exposed to the virus. Authorities have also urged healthcare facilities to remain vigilant, promptly report suspected infections and maintain strict infection prevention and control measures.
As investigations continue, Nigerians are advised to obtain updates from the NCDC and other recognised public health authorities and avoid circulating unverified information about suspected cases.
