The Governor of Kano State, Mallam Abba Yusuf, has called for the public parade of 14 suspects arrested in connection with the lynching of 16 hunters from Edo State. The governor made this demand during a condolence visit by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, at the Kano Government House on Monday.
The lynching incident occurred last Thursday when a vigilante group intercepted a truck carrying the hunters, accusing them of being kidnappers. The victims were burnt to death, while 10 others escaped.
Governor Yusuf described the attack as “disturbing” and emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to upholding the sanctity of human life. He noted that the suspects’ public parade would bring relief to the victims’ families and ensure accountability.
Yusuf also addressed concerns about possible reprisals by northerners, assuring that strong security measures have been implemented to prevent such attacks. He urged Governor Okpebholo to ensure fair compensation for the victims’ families and commended President Tinubu for his prompt response to the incident.
The 14 suspects have been transferred to Abuja, where they will face further investigation and prosecution. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for justice and an end to mob violence.
