ENUGU — The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) is set to host its Biennial National Convention in Enugu from June 26 to 29, 2025, with the theme: “Building a Secure and Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion and the Media.”
In a statement jointly signed by the NGE President, Mr. Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, the Guild said the convention will bring together more than 400 editors and leading voices in the Nigerian media landscape.
Prominent figures expected to grace the event include Prince Sam Amuka, Publisher of Vanguard; Chief Segun Osoba, veteran journalist and former Ogun State governor; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, former Presidential Spokesman; Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY and Arise News Channel; and Dr. John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television.
The convention will be officially declared open by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi. The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, will serve as Chief Host, while Dr. Momoh is billed to chair the event. Prince Amuka, Chief Osoba, and Chief Ugochukwu will serve as “Fathers of the Day.”
A major highlight of the convention will be the keynote address by the Director-General of the State Security Services (SSS), Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, titled: “Nation’s Security Future: Harnessing Diversity for Peace/Stability and the Media’s Role.” National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, will attend as Special Guest.
The Guild emphasized that Nigeria’s security and cohesion can be strengthened by embracing its diversity and ensuring inclusive governance. According to the NGE, the media plays a critical role in this process by fostering dialogue, promoting tolerance, combating misinformation, and highlighting underrepresented perspectives.
“Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation,” the statement read. “The media must help drive inclusive narratives, challenge stereotypes, and support peace-building efforts nationwide.”
The three-day event will also feature the election of new NGE executives, who will lead the professional body for the next two years.
