Abia State Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, has commended the Chima Anyaso Foundation for its impactful humanitarian service, following the successful conclusion of a five-day free eye outreach in Bende Federal Constituency.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the outreach, Professor Uche described the initiative as life-changing, noting that it restored hope to many residents through improved access to eye care services.
“I want to believe that our people can see with our eyes now. We can also hear with our ears and touch with our hands. We have seen the Ofuji phenomenon and it is now left for us to interpret what we have seen and use it,” the commissioner stated.
He praised the outreach as a commendable intervention worthy of continuity and broader support, adding that the Abia State Ministry of Health was highly impressed with the programme and would relay its success to Governor Alex Otti’s administration.
According to him, the partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Chima Anyaso Foundation is expected to become stronger in the years ahead.
“I want to say that the Ministry of Health is very happy with what you are doing. We will take word back to His Excellency and we hope that our relationship with the Chima Anyaso Foundation will continue to grow. I believe that even next year, it will be bigger and better,” he said.
Professor Uche also hailed the people of Bende for consistently producing distinguished sons and daughters committed to the development of society.
“Bende has never lacked good people to represent them. Whenever we have those who are not doing what we expect, it is not difficult to find capable replacements. We always have outstanding sons and daughters of Bende ready to answer the call to service,” he added.
The commissioner specifically applauded Chief Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso for sponsoring the outreach and urged him to sustain the initiative while encouraging other well-meaning individuals to emulate such gestures.
“We are happy that Chief Anyaso is footing the bill. We want him to continue doing more for our people and we will continue to support him. What we have seen is something we want to continue and even expand so that others can follow the example,” he stated.
Professor Uche further advised beneficiaries to strictly adhere to medical instructions given by doctors and called for proper documentation of patients treated during the outreach to enable effective follow-up care by the Ministry of Health.
He also commended the medical and technical teams for their dedication and sacrifices throughout the exercise.
The five-day free eye outreach, organised by the Chima Anyaso Foundation in collaboration with the Rebirth Ministry and Precious Sight Foundation, and supported by the Abia State Government, provided free eye examinations, treatment, and other medical support to residents across several communities in Bende Federal Constituency.
