The lawmaker representing Ukwa East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, has announced plans to enroll 10 additional students into the second phase of his scholarship scheme.
Hon. Obianyi, who is currently sponsoring 11 students from the constituency in the Department of Maritime Studies at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, said the new beneficiaries will be admitted following the release of fresh admissions into the maritime programme.
The Ndoki-born legislator reaffirmed his commitment to human capital development, noting that the scholarship initiative is designed to create opportunities for young people in Ukwa East. According to him, the new phase will ensure that one student from each political ward in the constituency benefits from the programme.
The former Chairman, Ukwa-East Local Government Council, further disclosed that the admission process into the College of Maritime Studies will commence on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and encouraged interested and qualified students from Ukwa East to apply.
Hon. Obianyi emphasized that investing in education remains a strategic pathway to empowering youths and preparing them for sustainable careers in the maritime sector.
