Adeleke Dumps PDP, Defects to Accord, Declares 2026 Re-Election Bid

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially joined the Accord Party, announcing his intention to seek a second term on the party’s platform.

Adeleke made the declaration on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state executives of the party. According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor revealed that he had secretly registered with the Accord Party on November 6, following weeks of consultations with political stakeholders.

He said his decision was driven by the alignment between Accord’s welfarist ideology and his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” Adeleke said. “Stakeholders and residents of Osun State understand why this step became necessary. We are committed to sustaining good governance and delivering democratic dividends that have been widely acknowledged.”

Adeleke emphasised that his government has prioritised the welfare of workers and the general populace, noting improvements in infrastructure and social services during his tenure. He urged party leaders and supporters to maintain unity ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

“From Osun West to Osun East and Osun Central, this is our new platform for victory,” he declared, calling on residents across various communities to support Accord as the state moves towards the next election.

The governor formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on December 1, citing prolonged leadership crises at the national level. He confirmed that his resignation letter was submitted to his ward leaders in Ede North Local Government on November 4.

Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities offered to him, including his previous election as senator and his current role as governor.
