Anyaso Hails Otti’s Governance, Says Poor Leadership Is ‘Criminality
Prominent businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Chima Anyaso, has praised the performance of the Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, declaring that any form of leadership that falls short of good governance amounts to “criminality.”
Anyaso made the remarks on Wednesday at the Umunna Leaders of Thought Colloquium held in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area. The event, themed “Good Governance as a World Legacy,” brought together stakeholders to assess leadership and development in the state.
In his address, Anyaso drew a sharp distinction between what he described as the current administration’s transformative strides and what he termed years of stagnation.
“Anything that is short of good governance is criminality,” he said. “Whether you are a Local Government Chairman, a member of the House of Assembly, a Senator, or a President, if you are not delivering good governance to the people, you are failing in your duty.”
He asserted that Abia is charting a new course under Governor Otti’s leadership, citing ongoing infrastructural renewal, transparency in governance, and what he described as a deliberate effort to rebuild public trust.
Anyaso also aligned with earlier speakers at the event who contrasted past “cosmetic renovations” with what they called comprehensive reforms under the present administration. According to him, the state is witnessing fundamental reconstruction rather than superficial adjustments.
“The Governor has done so much that listing all the projects he has executed and continues to commission—even on his birthday—would take the whole day,” he added.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the governor, Anyaso hinted at a pivotal moment in his career influenced by Otti during his tenure as Managing Director of Diamond Bank. He, however, reserved details of the experience for another time, describing it as a turning point in his journey as a businessman.
The colloquium concluded with participants commending the current administration’s governance approach, describing it as a model aligned with the day’s theme of building a lasting legacy through responsible leadership.
