The Umuekwule Autonomous Community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State has honoured one of its sons, Comrade Chibuike Emmanuel, for facilitating the installation of 245 solar-powered street lights across the community.
The project, which covers major roads and strategic locations within Umuekwule, has improved night-time visibility, strengthened security, and enhanced the overall outlook of the community.
Presenting the honour at his palace, the UGA IV of Nkwoegwu Autonomous Community, Afugiri, Eze Chijioke Chikwekwem, described Comrade Emmanuel as a worthy ambassador whose efforts have brought lasting benefits to the people.
The traditional ruler said the solar-powered street lights have illuminated previously dark areas, making the community safer for residents while improving the environment. He urged other indigenes to emulate the gesture by supporting projects that would advance the welfare of the people.
“Our children need scholarships, our women require financial assistance to expand their businesses, and there are many other areas where the community needs support. We encourage all sons and daughters of Umuekwule to contribute meaningfully to the development of their homeland,” the monarch said.
Also speaking, the President General of Umuekwule Autonomous Community, Mr. Ebo Chikwendu, described the project as a major milestone that would positively impact the lives of residents.
He noted that the installation of the street lights represents progress and development, adding that appreciation for good deeds inspires greater service to humanity.
“We are here to appreciate Comrade Chibuike Emmanuel for remembering his maternal home. This intervention will transform our community in many ways. Let us continue to promote unity, love and forgiveness, as these remain the pillars of sustainable community development,” he said.
The Palace Secretary of Nkwoegwu Autonomous Community, High Chief C.C. Chukwu, and the Village Head, Royal High Chief Ekeoba Sydney Obinna, also commended Emmanuel for his commitment to community development and prayed for greater accomplishments in his future endeavours.
Leaders of the women, led by the President General of Umuekwule Women, Mrs. Chisara Ahaba, alongside High Chief Mrs. Oluchi Nwosu, expressed appreciation for the project, saying it has significantly improved security and made movement at night safer, particularly for women and children.
Responding, Comrade Chibuike Emmanuel thanked the community for the recognition, describing it as one of the greatest honours he has ever received.
He explained that he facilitated the project to improve security, ease movement at night and beautify the community.
“This is one of the happiest moments of my life. I dedicate this honour to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, whose leadership has created opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to national development. I remain committed to impacting lives and will continue to serve my people,” he said.
In his vote of thanks, the Governor of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Abia State Chapter, High Chief Ejeh Williams, described the project as a catalyst for development and prosperity, urging other well-meaning individuals to emulate Emmanuel’s example.
The ceremony featured the presentation of food items, a ram, and a framed portrait to Comrade Emmanuel, alongside special prayers offered for his continued success and service to humanity.
