A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin has issued an interim order restraining a mining firm, El-Tahdam Exploration, from further evacuating or disposing of a heap of lithium discovered in Lade, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The order followed a suit filed by Moses Ake and Gana Tsado on behalf of the Lade District Development Association and other indigenes of the community, who are challenging the company’s activities in the area.
In Suit No. FHC/IL/CS/119/2025, the court barred El-Tahdam Exploration, as well as its workers, officers and agents, from disposing, transporting, removing or otherwise dealing with the lithium deposit pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro granted the interim injunction in an order dated December 8, 2025, a certified true copy of which was obtained from the court’s registry.
The court further restrained the firm from harassing, intimidating or attacking the plaintiffs, including through the use of security agents, in connection with the subject matter of the suit.
According to the order, the injunction will remain in force until the court hears and determines the substantive application before it. The matter was adjourned to January 13, 2025, for further proceedings.
The case underscores growing legal and community scrutiny over mineral extraction activities in Kwara State, particularly as lithium continues to attract heightened interest due to its strategic importance in energy transition technologies.
