The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered a cybercrime training hub in Umuahia, Abia State, arresting 23 individuals linked to internet fraud.
The raid, conducted on Friday, July 18, by operatives from the EFCC’s Uyo Zonal Directorate, targeted a facility known as Yahoo-Yahoo Hustle Kingdom, located within the Doofco Palace building behind Government College Umuahia. Among those apprehended were eight individuals identified as trainees receiving instruction in cybercrime techniques.
The arrested trainees include Toona Henry, Tavershima Solomon, Chi Orseer James, Ubee Benjamin, Gabriel Ibe Ifeanyi, Tindue Godwin, Muhammed Terwase Micheal, and Destiny Andrew.
In a coordinated sweep across Umudike, Ahiaeke, and Umugu—communities within the Umuahia metropolis—15 additional suspects believed to be active internet fraudsters or their collaborators were also taken into custody.
EFCC operatives recovered 15 laptops, 34 mobile phones, and two vehicles suspected to be proceeds of illegal cyber activities.
The anti-graft agency stated that the bust was the result of credible intelligence linking the facility to a wider cybercrime network. The suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
