A fire outbreak on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, gutted parts of Eke Market in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, destroying shops and goods estimated to be worth millions of naira.
The inferno, which broke out in the early hours, spread rapidly through the market, consuming several stalls before efforts to contain it took effect. Traders and residents were seen salvaging what they could as the blaze raged, while emergency responders and volunteers worked to bring the situation under control.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, and no official report on casualties has been released as of the time of filing this report. Authorities have assured affected traders that investigations will be conducted and further updates provided.
