Fubara Assures Rivers People: Executive, Legislature Will Be Stronger, United Again

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured the people of the state that the suspended state government structures will soon be fully restored, stronger and more united, following ongoing peace efforts led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during a midterm stakeholders’ briefing under the “Simplified Movement” platform yesterday (Thursday, May 29, 2025), in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara said the intervention by the President and other patriotic Nigerians had set the state on a path toward reconciliation and stability.

“I assure you, by the special grace of God, that we will return to our offices—not just the Executive arm but also the Legislative arm,” Fubara stated. “We believe the relationship we once shared—working, campaigning, and even dining together—will be restored. There is no problem that cannot be resolved; what matters is having a forgiving spirit.”

Acknowledging the current challenges facing his administration, Fubara described the situation as “critical,” but emphasized that peace remains the only viable option.

“The court has ruled, and our only option forward is peace. Fighting or arguing won’t solve our problems. What we need now is reconciliation for the progress of Rivers State,” he said.

The governor expressed deep appreciation to his supporters for standing by him, particularly as he chose to pursue peace instead of further conflict. He specifically praised President Tinubu’s decisive intervention, saying it made the difference in maintaining constitutional order in the state.

“We are already in the peace process,” Fubara declared. “Mr. President is the one who saved the situation. Without his intervention, protests or agitation wouldn’t have solved the problem.”

He urged Rivers people to join him in thanking the President and other national figures who have lent their voices and support to the resolution of the crisis.

“Many prominent Nigerians have spoken and intervened on our behalf, and all these efforts are for the greater good of Rivers State,” the governor said. “No matter how difficult it may seem or how bad we might feel, what truly matters is that our state moves forward.”

Turning to his midterm performance, Fubara noted that despite political turbulence, his administration has recorded commendable achievements.

“Our journey has been turbulent, but we’ve made significant progress with the mandate given to us by the people. We’ve placed Rivers State at the forefront nationally by prioritizing the state’s interest above personal gain,” he said.

Reflecting on the anniversary, the governor admitted that the crisis had limited the scope of planned celebrations but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

“If not for the crisis, we would have showcased more of our achievements. But it has pleased God that things turned out this way. We will continue to navigate through and keep delivering for our people,” he concluded.

Governor Fubara also thanked members of the “Simplified Movement” for their unwavering support, noting that their commitment was spontaneous and sincere.

“You have been wonderful. I never had to solicit your support through letters or text messages—it came from the heart,” he said.
