Fubara Targets January 2027 Completion for 700-Shop Creek Road Market
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the Creek Road Market in Port Harcourt, projecting its completion by January 2027.
Fubara gave the assurance on Friday during an inspection of the project, describing the market as a key intervention to relocate street traders, ease traffic congestion and improve environmental sanitation in the Old Port Harcourt Township.

The first phase of the market features about 700 shops and stalls, with separate sections for wet and dry goods. The facility is designed to accommodate traders currently operating along Creek Road and neighbouring streets.
The governor explained that relocating the traders would allow SETRACO, the contractor handling road rehabilitation in the old township, to proceed with resurfacing Creek Road, where roadside trading has impeded construction work.

He commended the contractor for the progress made and pledged that the state government would address funding challenges to ensure the project is completed within the projected timeframe.
According to him, the market would provide traders with a more organised business environment while helping to improve sanitation, minimise environmental and public health risks, and restore the Old Port Harcourt Township’s reputation for cleanliness and orderliness.
Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure projects aimed at improving residents’ welfare, protecting public health and supporting economic activities across Rivers State.
