…Appeal for Palliatives for those displaced

THE Guild of Online Media Editors and publishers Of Nigeria (GOMEP), has called on federal government and the Delta State Government for immediate evacuation of the soldiers allegedly occupying Okwuama and it’s environs in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State to allow displaced Okwuama indegenes and defenceless students and pupils to return to their Schools and homes, without further delay.

The group who disclosed this in a Press statement signed by its National president, Dr. Dozie Nwankodu, and its National Secretary, Omiragwa Akpovoke Treasure Otiti and made available to newsmen in Lagos State on Saturday, decried the killings of innocent citizens.

GOMEP noted that the action of the Soldiers that confirmed Okwuama Community to a desert, “was supposed to be investigated, set up a panel of investigation before razing the entire community down. That going by various reports flying around on social media, because no single civilian is been allowed to visit the scene.

GOMEP condemned the killing of soldiers in Okwuama Community which have made the military out of provocation bombard, and razed down Okwuama community compared to the glaring provocations in northern part of Nigeria which the military is sentimentally avoiding”

It added that “Nigeria Army are supposed to protect innocent citizens and not been at war with harmless innocent civilians and, as such, needed not to be haunted, while the perpetrators of the act may be some where hiding and innocent civilians are been displaced

“today we had issues of kidnappers, herders killing and adopting innocent Nigeria’s at Ransome but yet the Nigeria military is at peace, No single Kidnapper nor herder has been captured. While not all these kidnappers and herders and not residential communities whose common trade is fishing and farming.

Okwuama Community has been known for their peaceful Co-existance which brought their inter marriage amongst themselves, GOMEP called on the Nigerian military authorities to prevail on the Chief of Army Staff to evacuate soldiers out of Okuama community, let’s allow the innocent fleeing residents, youths, women and children to return to their homes “as hundreds of persons have been made homeless, displaced and suffering as a result of these invasions.”

“Again, we call on the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Chief of Army Staff to prevail on the military task force, to stop further invasions in Okwuama, Delta Community and ensure the civilians who have perpetrated this heinous crime against Soldiers and Okwuama and Okobe community be made to face justice,” the group said.
