Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has commended members of the National Assembly who defected on Tuesday from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing their decision as courageous, principled and forward-looking.

The governor said the lawmakers’ action reflects a shared commitment to the collective progress of Rivers State and Nigeria, and signals the emergence of a stronger, more united political front in the state.

Those who defected include Senators Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East) and Barinada Mpigi (Rivers South-East), as well as members of the House of Representatives: Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke.

Governor Fubara also acknowledged earlier defectors who had aligned with his administration and the APC, including Hon. Boniface Emerengwa, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Hon. Boma Goodhead, who joined from the PDP, as well as Hon. Umezuruike Manuchim of the Labour Party.

According to the governor, the latest defections go beyond routine political realignment and represent a strong validation of his own decision to join the APC. He said the growing alignment is strategically positioning Rivers State to be fully integrated into the centre of national governance.

“This development signals unity of purpose and a shared vision to place Rivers State where it rightfully belongs—at the heart of national decision-making,” he said.

Governor Fubara noted that the consolidation of political forces within the APC will enable the state to maximise opportunities for accelerated growth, inclusive development and long-term sustainability.

He further observed that the growing coalition reflects the ongoing transformation under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Expressing confidence in the direction of the party, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to mobilising widespread support for President Tinubu’s policies and reforms. He also pledged to work towards securing a decisive victory for the president in Rivers State during the 2027 general elections.
Governor Fubara called on well-meaning residents of the state to join the APC, urging them to support what he described as a new era of progressive politics anchored on peace, stability and sustainable prosperity for Rivers State.
