Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), describing the company’s success as critical to the economic growth of Rivers State and Nigeria.
Fubara gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG, Adeleye Falade, during a courtesy visit at Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor noted that sustained support for NLNG and other corporate organisations operating in Rivers State would translate into wider economic benefits for both the state and the country. He emphasised that the success of businesses, government, and the people are closely interconnected.
“We are the ones here. If we don’t support you and you don’t succeed, we also will not succeed, and the country will not succeed. So you can always count on our support,” Fubara said, assuring the company of continued collaboration.
Fubara also appealed to NLNG’s leadership to support the revitalisation of Bonny General Hospital, urging the company to reinstate incentives that previously attracted medical personnel to the facility.
According to him, the hospital once functioned effectively due to NLNG’s strong community engagement and incentive programmes, which made postings to Bonny Island attractive to health workers. He, however, expressed concern that the facility has deteriorated over time, forcing residents to seek medical care from unqualified providers.
The governor disclosed that the state government had already begun steps to restore the hospital following a tragic incident in which a patient reportedly died at a quack clinic, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen healthcare services in the area.
He urged NLNG to complement the government’s efforts by restoring its previous support structures, stressing that improved healthcare delivery is essential for sustainable community development.
Fubara also commended NLNG for maintaining resilience and operational success despite the country’s challenging business environment. He attributed the company’s longevity to a structure that allows private sector expertise to drive operations while government provides oversight.
Earlier, NLNG’s Chief Executive Officer, Falade, expressed appreciation to the governor for sustaining a strong working relationship with the company, particularly in addressing pipeline vandalism and ensuring a stable operating environment.
He noted that improved security conditions have recently enabled the company to scale up operations, leading to increased productivity and revenue.
Falade reiterated NLNG’s commitment to socio-economic development in Rivers State through investments in education, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives.
According to him, the company has invested billions of naira in school renovation projects under its General Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU), alongside vocational training programmes aimed at building local capacity in the Niger Delta.
He further disclosed that NLNG has generated over $30 billion in revenue since its inception, with the Federal Government holding a 49 per cent stake in the company. The firm has also paid about $9 billion in taxes and contributed more than ₦250 billion to the Rivers State Government through employee taxes.
Falade expressed optimism that the company’s performance would continue to improve, projecting higher returns in 2026 driven by a peaceful operating environment and sustained government support.
He added that continued collaboration between NLNG, the Rivers State Government, and host communities remains crucial to achieving long-term economic growth and stability in the region.
