Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Hon. Benibo Anabraba as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), with a charge to uphold the dignity of the office and protect the collective interest of the state.
The appointment, announced on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Government House, Port Harcourt, is Governor Fubara’s first major political appointment since his return to office following the lifting of the state of emergency in Rivers State.
Speaking during the brief swearing-in ceremony, Governor Fubara described the SSG’s position as a call to honour and service.
“God has brought you in at this particular time to be the Secretary to the Government of Rivers State,” the governor told Anabraba. “It is a position of honour, so guard that office with honour. Discharge your duties with respect, and protect the interest of Rivers State so that when you leave office, you will do so with pride and integrity.”
Governor Fubara, who recalled Anabraba’s previous service as a cabinet member and former Minority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, commended his dedication and work ethic.
“Within the period we worked together, you showed commitment and loyalty,” he said. “I urge you not to use this opportunity to display power or authority but to see it as a renewed call to duty.”
The governor further noted that the state was emerging from a difficult period, emphasizing the need for collective effort to restore public confidence.
“We are just coming out from a very bad situation,” he said. “Now that peace has returned, we must reassure the people of Rivers State that we truly mean well for them. Please, by the grace of God, do your work diligently to help us succeed in this assignment that God Almighty has given to us.”
Hon. Anabraba, a seasoned politician and respected leader in the state, is expected to bring his legislative and administrative experience to bear in coordinating government policies and strengthening the delivery of good governance in Rivers State.
