Gov Zulum Assures NYSC Members of Safety, Gives ₦50,000 Each

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has assured National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state of their safety and encouraged them to embrace their one-year national service with confidence.

Speaking during an interaction with corps members in Biu on Wednesday while on a working visit to the area, the governor urged them to regard Borno as their home and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.

“Borno is your home; enjoy your service,” Zulum told the corps members, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting young Nigerians through youth-focused programmes and initiatives.

As part of the visit, the governor announced a cash gift of ₦50,000 to each corps member serving in the area, while nursing mothers among them received ₦200,000 each. NYSC officials also received financial support as a gesture of appreciation for their service.

Zulum said his administration would continue investing in youth development as a key strategy for rebuilding livelihoods, strengthening human capital and accelerating the state’s socio-economic recovery.

During a courtesy visit to the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha II, the governor also unveiled plans to recruit graduates into the state civil service. He announced that 50 graduates from each of the state’s 27 local government areas would be employed, while larger councils—including Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Jere, Biu, Askira-Uba and Gwoza—would each receive 100 employment slots.

The governor commended the Emir for his continued efforts in promoting peace and stability within the emirate.

Borno State has, over the years, remained one of the regions most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and related security challenges. Although security has improved in many communities through sustained military operations, isolated attacks by insurgents have continued to occur in parts of the state, making assurances of safety for residents and visitors an important aspect of the government’s engagement.
