The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr., has extended warm felicitations to women across Nigeria and the world as they commemorate the 2026 edition of International Women’s Day celebrated annually on March 8.
In a goodwill message signed by his Spokesperson; George Egejuru and made available to newsmen today, Erondu Jnr. applauded the resilience, courage, and invaluable contributions of women to the growth of families, communities, and nations.
The Chairman, House Committee on Public Service Matters, Abia State House of Assembly, noted that this year’s theme, “Give To Gain,” highlights the importance of investing in and supporting women and girls, emphasizing that empowering women ultimately leads to stronger societies and sustainable development.
The lawmaker also aligned with the advocacy of the United Nations for “Rights. Justice. Action for All Women and Girls,” stressing the need for deliberate actions that remove barriers such as discriminatory practices and social norms that hinder women from attaining their full potential.
The former Chairman, Obingwa Local Government Area (LGA), acknowledged the significant role women play in leadership, entrepreneurship, education, and community development, describing them as indispensable partners in building a prosperous and equitable society.
He therefore called on governments, institutions, and individuals to intensify efforts towards promoting gender equality, protecting the rights of women and girls, and creating opportunities that enable them to thrive.
The Uhie-born legislator further urged women, to remain steadfast, pursue their aspirations with confidence, and continue to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of society.
In his words: “On this special occasion of International Women’s Day, I celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. Let us continue to support, uplift, and empower women and girls for the collective progress of our communities and our nation.”
