Kudos As Gov Fubara Revamps 12 Years Moribund Fire Service
...Set To Inaugurate Remodeled Facilities In March
The over 12 years abandoned Fire Service Stations in Rivers State, has been revamp by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Sir Fubara also assured Rivers people that his administration will address the deficits in fire services which has resulted in poor responses and dependence on multinationals in tackling incidents of fire outbreaks in the past
Interacting with newsmen shortly after inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of the three major fire Service stations in the State today, Fubara said: “As a matter of fact, I can boldly say that Rivers State has not had a functional fire service for the past 12 years.”
The fire stations located at Mile 1 Flyover, Rumuodomaya and Borikiri are currently being refurbished and nearing completion, to combat fire incidences in the State.
He noted that his administration is trying to put the three fire stations into effective and efficient use in responding rapidly and quickly to fighting fire incidences in the State.
The governor who was accompanied on the inspection by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Samuel Anya, emphasised that for a long time the government had relied on multinationals such as Shell, Agip, Chevron and Totalfina-Elf to respond to such emergencies as fighting fire in the State, saying as “a government one of our responsibilities is to protect lives and property.”
He pointed out that “Issues of fire incidences might be natural, or as a result of some mistakes in our homes and our duty is to make sure that we are prepared to combat it whenever it occurs. So we are trying to make sure that we do not depend again on the multinationals, but be ready and prepared to save lives and property of Rivers people”
The governor expressed satisfaction with the works done by the contractor commending the contractor for working within the timeline and assured that the project will be commissioned in the first week of March.
It could be recalled that in preparation to reviving the fire stations, Gov. Siminalayi Fubara had earlier procured some Fire Fighting Trucks to boost the services of the fire stations in combating emergencies.
