Lawmaker Erondu Jnr Calls for Swift Justice Over Murder of Constituent, Achumba
The member representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the gruesome rape and murder of his constituent, Nurse Chizaram Wendy Achumba an indigene of Umuokahia Annunu-Ukwu Autonomous Community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a release signed by his Spokesperson, George Egejuru, and made available to newsmen today, the lawmaker described the unfortunate incident, which reportedly occurred in Obowo, Imo State, as barbaric, heartbreaking and unacceptable.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Abia South Senatorial Candidate, stressed that no society should tolerate such wicked acts against innocent citizens, especially young women striving to build meaningful lives.
The former Chairman, Obingwa Local Government Area commiserated with the family of the deceased, the people of Umuokahia Annunu-Ukwu Autonomous Community, and the entire Obingwa people over the painful loss of a promising daughter whose life was tragically cut short.
According to him, “The brutal rape and murder of 21-year-old Miss Achumba is a painful reminder of the increasing cases of violent crimes in our society. This evil act must not go unpunished. I strongly condemn this heinous crime and call on security agencies to intensify investigations and ensure that the perpetrators are identified, arrested and prosecuted without delay.”
The Uhie-born legislator further urged security agencies across the country to step up intelligence gathering, surveillance and proactive policing in order to curb the rising incidents of rape, murder and other violent crimes.
He noted that justice for the late Achumba would not only bring some measure of consolation to her grieving family but would also serve as a deterrent to criminal elements terrorizing innocent citizens.
Erondu Jnr also called on governments at all levels, community leaders, civil society organizations and citizens to work collectively towards protecting women and vulnerable groups from violence and abuse.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased and urged the family to remain strong during this difficult moment, assuring them that the cries for justice would not be ignored.
