The member representing Ukwa-East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lewis Chinaemerem Obianyi, has called for renewed commitment to national unity, peace and development as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Hon. Obianyi, in an Independence Day message, made available to newsmen, urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the nation’s journey since independence and recommit themselves to the ideals of a united, peaceful and prosperous country.

The lawmaker said Nigeria’s diversity should remain a strength, urging citizens to rise above ethnic, religious and political differences and work collectively for the progress of the nation.

The former Chairman, Ukwa-East LGA, also called on political leaders and public office holders to prioritise the welfare of citizens through policies and programmes that promote economic opportunities, human-capital development and improved living standards.

According to him, the responsibility of building a better Nigeria extends beyond government, stressing that citizens also have important roles to play through responsible citizenship, hard work, integrity and respect for the rule of law.

Obianyi particularly encouraged Nigerian youths to remain hopeful and take advantage of opportunities to acquire education, skills and other forms of capacity that would enable them contribute meaningfully to national development.

He expressed optimism that with collective determination, patriotism and responsible leadership, Nigeria would overcome its challenges and realise its enormous potential.

The Abia lawmaker wished Nigerians at home and in the diaspora a peaceful and memorable Independence Day celebration, while reaffirming his commitment to effective representation and the development of Ukwa-East Constituency.
