The Federal Government has declared Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with the United States and other international partners to eliminate terrorist groups and criminal networks operating within the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the statement on Wednesday during a world press conference in Abuja.
Acknowledging Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, Idris stressed that violence in the country is not targeted at any religious group, dismissing claims based on what he described as misleading data.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has strengthened efforts against insecurity in the last two years, citing improvements in Nigeria’s ranking on the Global Terrorism Index as well as recent changes in the nation’s security leadership.
“The Nigerian government is willing to work with other international bodies, including the United States, to ensure that criminals are permanently wiped out,” Idris said.
“We welcome support from international partners to deal with our security challenges. President Tinubu is taking the lead in resolving all issues with the US and other countries. Nigeria is not denying that there are serious security issues, and this government remains committed to ending them.”
The minister added that the government is aware of concerns raised by the US regarding alleged human rights violations and intends to address them appropriately.
His comments follow recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who warned of potential military action if Nigeria fails to address alleged targeted killings of Christians. The US has since designated Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’.
