A political stakeholder in Abia State, Chief Eric Opah, has said that his decision to present an alternative political vision is driven by the need for greater performance, accelerated development, and improved governance in the state.
Chief Opah stated that politics and governance should not be driven by bitterness or hatred, stressing that leadership must always be evaluated based on the realities confronting the people.
According to him, responsible opposition requires objectivity and sincerity, noting that his camp had, at different times, acknowledged and commended visible efforts made by the present administration where necessary.
He, however, maintained that commendation for certain achievements should not be interpreted as permanent political endorsement.
Chief Opah argued that governance should be measured by its direct impact on the lives of citizens rather than intentions or media narratives, adding that Abians now expect accelerated development, improved welfare, modern infrastructure, economic expansion, and inclusive governance that reflects the vast resources available to the state.
“Our decision to present an alternative vision is not borne out of malice or personal disagreement with anyone. It is driven by our conviction that Abia can develop faster, perform better, and compete favourably with leading states across Nigeria,” he said.
He further stated that governance in the state must move beyond stabilization to transformation, stressing that while some visible efforts have been recorded, they are still not commensurate with the expectations and possibilities before the state.
Chief Opah noted that Abia workers deserve improved welfare and better salaries, while youths require greater opportunities through economic empowerment and job creation.
He also emphasized the need for functional roads, improved healthcare, enhanced security, and a more competitive business environment capable of attracting investors.
Describing the movement as one focused on progress rather than personal attacks, Opah said their campaign would remain issue-based, solution-driven, and future-oriented.
He reaffirmed his commitment to presenting practical ideas and realistic policies aimed at uniting the state, accelerating development, and improving the living conditions of the people.
“A better Abia is possible, and together we can build it,” he added.
