PDP Suffers Setback as Wabara Resigns

Former Executive Chairman of Ukwa-East Local Government Area of Abia State, Hon. Chuks Wabara, has formally resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing deepening internal divisions and what he described as a lack of coherent leadership within the party.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP leadership of Ikwueke East Ward in Ukwa-East LGA, and made available to newsmen today, Wabara said his decision takes immediate effect. He described the move as “weighty but necessary,” given what he termed the fractured state of the party at various levels.

According to him, persistent internal dissonance, factional disputes, and the absence of a clear and unifying vision have significantly undermined his confidence in the party’s ability to effectively represent the aspirations of the people and advance Nigeria’s democratic progress.

“The internal divisions and the seeming lack of purposeful leadership have eroded my belief in the party’s current capacity to serve as a credible platform for the advancement of our people’s interests,” he stated.

Despite his departure, Wabara expressed profound gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded him to serve the people of Ndoki and Ukwa-East LGA. He noted that the party provided him with a respected political platform through which he was elected Deputy Chairman and subsequently Chairman of Ukwa-East LGA between 2020 and 2022.

Reflecting on his tenure, he described his time in office as a period dedicated to grassroots development and service to the people. He said he remains indebted to the party structure and, most importantly, to the constituents who entrusted him with leadership responsibilities.

“I am sincerely thankful for the privilege to serve. Those opportunities enabled me to contribute meaningfully to grassroots development, and for that I remain grateful,” he added.

Wabara concluded his resignation message by wishing the PDP leadership and members well in their future endeavours.

His resignation adds to the growing list of political realignments within party structures at the Federal, state and local government levels in recent times.
