Police in Ogun State have arrested an official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abass Olalekan, over his alleged involvement in the death of a female corps member following a failed abortion.
The deceased, identified as Victoria Ariyo, was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area before her death on Tuesday. She reportedly died from complications arising from a terminated pregnancy.
Sources alleged that Olalekan, a Local Government Inspector (LGI), impregnated the corps member, which later resulted in the abortion that led to her death.
Police sources confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as investigations continue.
The Ogun State Police Command has transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further probe, while declining detailed comments on the matter.
Authorities also clarified that the incident is not linked to the recent death of another corps member in the area.
