Reactions Trail Reported Execution of Bangladeshi Couple over Mosque Kiss

Reactions have trailed reports that two Bangladeshi nationals were executed in Saudi Arabia over an alleged kiss inside a mosque in Mecca, with the development raising questions about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The pair, identified in circulating reports as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, were alleged to have kissed on the forehead inside the mosque in a gesture of gratitude to Allah following their marriage.

Reports on social media claimed that the couple had travelled to the holy city for their honeymoon before the alleged incident. However, these details, including the claim that they were newlyweds, have not been independently verified.

The case has drawn attention to the treatment of foreign nationals convicted of offences in Saudi Arabia, particularly where capital punishment is involved.

Recall that reports from Bangladesh indicated that the two nationals were executed on October 14, 2026, following their conviction by a Saudi court over an alleged offence described by the authorities as immoral conduct inside a mosque in Mecca.

Saudi authorities reportedly said the pair were arrested, prosecuted and sentenced to death, with the sentences subsequently upheld before their execution.

Bangladeshi authorities have reportedly sought clarification from Saudi Arabia over the executions, with concerns raised about the absence of prior notification to the victims’ home country.

Meanwhile, claims that the couple’s bodies were returned to Bangladesh in separate coffins have also circulated, although the details require independent confirmation.

The circumstances surrounding the case remain unclear, as questions persist over the specific offence for which the pair were convicted and the extent to which the claims circulating online reflect the official record.
