Rivers Crisis: Group Moves To Recall Amaewhule, 26 Others

The Nigeria Democratic Frontiers (NDF), Rivers State chapter, has vowed to commence the recall process of factional Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers.

They accused them of attempting to derail good governance in the state.

Interacting with newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, the group’s spokesman, Dr. Evans Emenike Akani, declared that the recall was inevitable due to the legislators’ “unpatriotic distractions” and their alleged bid to sabotage the development strides of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“We shall recall all of them, none shall be spared unless they repent and support the progress of Rivers State rather than serve the selfish interests of one man,” Akani stated.

He warned that the actions of Amaewhule and his colleagues could fuel ethnic tensions, pointing out that the Ikwerre ethnic group had held the governorship for 16 of the last 24 years. Now that a riverine Ijaw son is in charge, Akani alleged that there were plots to remove him despite having committed no offence.

The group called on all well-meaning Rivers indigenes and residents to actively participate in the recall process, which will be unveiled in the coming days.

“Rivers people should remain calm. The process to reclaim our state from political hijackers will soon begin in full force,” Akani assured.
