Rivers Is Safe, Open for Business — Gov Fubara Assures Investors

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed the safety, stability, and investment readiness of the state, dismissing negative narratives circulating on social media regarding security concerns.

The Governor gave the assurance on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the grand finale of the 2026 Port Harcourt International Polo Tournament, describing the successful and incident-free hosting of the week-long event as clear evidence of the prevailing peace and security in Rivers State.

Governor Fubara stated that the absence of any security breach throughout the tournament underscores his administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state, adding that Rivers remains open for business, leisure, tourism, and international engagements.

He explained that his presence at the prestigious sporting event was informed by both personal and official reasons. According to him, he attended to honour the memory of his late brother, Architect Roland Cookey-Gam, whose wife and son were present at the event, and also in response to encouragement from the leadership of the Port Harcourt Polo Club.

While acknowledging the prevailing political atmosphere in the state, Governor Fubara noted that recent distractions would not derail his administration from its core mandate of governance and service delivery.

“Notwithstanding these distractions, we must move on. We must continue to carry out our responsibilities as a government and support everyone who genuinely means well for Rivers State,” he said.

The Governor assured stakeholders of sustained government support to further develop the Port Harcourt Polo Club, with a view to elevating it as a major hub for international sports and tourism.

He also urged visiting players, officials, and guests to leave the state with positive impressions, reiterating that the protection of lives and property remains the foremost obligation of his administration.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Mr. Henry Prince Agbodjan, commended Governor Fubara for attending the grand finale of the tournament, noting that the seamless and incident-free conduct of the event further validates Rivers State’s security credentials.

Agbodjan also disclosed that the tournament coincided with the 20th remembrance anniversary of Architect Roland Cookey-Gam, who died in a tragic plane crash, explaining that the event served both sporting and commemorative purposes.

The highlight of the grand finale was the presentation of trophies to winning individuals and teams, marking a successful conclusion to the 2026 Port Harcourt International Polo Tournament.
