The Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, on Christmas Day brought joy and encouragement to families and vulnerable children as part of activities marking the 2025 yuletide celebrations in the state.
Lady Fubara, founder of the Valerie SIMple Life Initiative, began the day with a visit to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt, where she celebrated babies born in the early hours of Christmas Day. She was presented with two newborns: Baby Eric Chinyere Blessing, weighing 2.7kg and delivered at 12:02 a.m., and Baby Chidugam Kinikachi Owhondah, born at 2:00 a.m.
Speaking during the visit, the First Lady expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life and the privilege of witnessing another Christmas season. She congratulated the parents on the safe delivery of their babies, describing the children as special gifts of the season and symbols of hope for the future.
Lady Fubara presented gift items, including baby toiletries and cash, to the newborns and their mothers. She noted that celebrating babies born on Christmas and New Year’s Day has become a cherished tradition in Rivers State, reflecting the government’s commitment to sharing in the joy of families during festive periods. She also encouraged the parents to raise their children with strong moral values so they would grow into responsible members of society.
Welcoming the First Lady, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Prof. Chizindu Alikor, thanked her for the visit and her consistent support for healthcare initiatives. He also expressed appreciation to Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara for approving the recruitment of 1,000 staff and for equipping critical departments of the hospital, assuring that the management would continue to prioritize quality healthcare delivery.
Earlier, Lady Fubara visited the Port Harcourt Children’s Home in Borikiri, where she distributed gifts to the children and reassured them of the state government’s continued care and support. She commended the caregivers for maintaining a clean, safe, and nurturing environment, expressing satisfaction with the level of attention and care provided to the children.
The visits underscored the First Lady’s commitment to compassion, social welfare, and inclusive celebration of the Christmas season across Rivers State.
