Women in Rivers State, under the umbrella of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, have renewed their call for an end to the state of emergency imposed on the state since March.

Gathered at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt today, Thursday, August 28, 2025, the women held their monthly prayer session with the theme “Divine Mercy and Peace.” They prayed for God’s intervention in restoring democratic governance, particularly the reinstatement of the governor and members of the State Assembly.

Speaking after the session, the women said families and communities have endured the pains of six months under emergency rule and expressed hope that normalcy would soon return.

They also offered prayers for the peace and reconciliation already taking shape among the state’s political leaders, while extending intercessions for Nigeria, Rivers State, and the wellbeing of families across the state.

The group’s media officer, Comrade Glory Sunday, who signed the communiqué, said the women remain steadfast in their faith that “mercy and peace will prevail in Rivers State.”
