The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has charged Ndoki youths and their counterparts in Abia state to shun oil bunkering, adding that it has devastating negative effects on nation’s economy.
The Commissioner representing Abia state in NDDC, Hon. Eruba Dimgba who disclosed this when he received in audience Ndoki youths at Okeikpe, Ukwa-West Local Government Area (LGA), Abia state yesterday, decried oil bunkering in the region, urging youths to partner with NDDC to secure the environment in order to improve Abia state oil producing capacity as well as its quota in the commission.
He reiterated the commission’s commitment to youth empowerment, provision of critical infrastructure, and Human Capital Development among others.
He added that the intervention agency exists to serve the youths, women and sustainable development of everyone in the region.
Hon. Eruba also revealed that the aged-long abandoned 18.6km Owaza road is undergoing immediate construction by NDDC while Ukwa-East roads and solar lightening projects have been captured in the 2024 national budget.
Eruba who further maintained that investors would come in once the environment is secured, also noted that the commission is collaborating with Geometric Power to get steady electricity to improve the economic fortune in the Ukwa-East region.
Earlier in his remark, a youth leader, Comrade Ugwumba Adiele who congratulated Hon. Eruba for his reappointment as a commissioner in NDDC, also applauded his actions and commitments towards the development of oil-rich Ukwa region.
Comrade Adiele who also commended the NDDC Commissioner for facilitating the reconstruction of the failed portions of the Obehie-Azumini road, expressed the readiness of Ndoki youths to collaborate with the commission towards the rebuilding of the area.
Contributing, the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ukwa-East chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Akparanta has called on commission to support Ndoki youths in the areas of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), employment opportunities, scholarship among others, adding that it would curb youth restiveness in the area.
He further restated their commitments towards partnering with NDDC to curb oil bunkering in the area, lamenting that it has hampered sustainable development in the area.
In his vote of thanks, the President, Ijaw Youth Council, Ndoki Chapter, Comrade Sampson Belle, thanked the NDDC commissioner for the warm reception and fatherly pieces of advice, adding that they would always support the commission towards realization of their set goals in the region.
