Tinubu’s Rivers Projects Will Boost 2027 Support – Ogu

The Rivers State Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Dr. Kingsley Ogu, has cited ongoing Federal Government projects and policies in the state as reasons he believes could strengthen support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Ogu spoke on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Port Harcourt, while briefing journalists after an expanded executive meeting of the movement, where a restructuring of its leadership across Rivers State was also announced.

Under the new arrangement, Ogu emerged as State Coordinator, while Bro. Tammy Soberekon was named Deputy Coordinator. The restructuring also affected coordinators at the senatorial district, federal constituency and local government levels, as well as some women leaders.

According to the movement, the exercise was aimed at promoting greater unity, inclusiveness and productivity while injecting fresh ideas into its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 political season.

Ogu said the meeting also reviewed strategies for taking the policies and projects of the Tinubu administration directly to residents through a door-to-door campaign across the state.

He highlighted the planned resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland, the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoni, activities around OML 58, the UBETA gas project and the second phase of the ASA gas project as developments he said could generate employment and stimulate economic activities.

On Ogoni, Ogu argued that renewed oil exploration, if sustained, could create jobs and opportunities for small and medium-scale businesses in the area.

He also pointed to the Federal University of Environment and Technology, noting that the institution could attract students, workers, businesses and other economic activities to Ogoniland. The university was established by law after President Tinubu assented to the enabling bill in February 2025.

Ogu further cited developments in the oil and gas sector, including OML 58 and the UBETA project, as part of what the movement intends to present to Rivers residents during its grassroots mobilisation.

He also defended the Federal Government’s removal of the petrol subsidy, acknowledging its impact while highlighting initiatives aimed at promoting gas-powered transportation and alternative energy sources.

On security, Ogu advocated the establishment of state police, arguing that a decentralised policing structure could strengthen responses to security challenges and improve coordination across communities and state boundaries.

The Rivers coordinator also commended the founder of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, whom he described as a leader committed to the development of the Niger Delta.

He specifically referenced Tantita Security Services and its role in protecting oil infrastructure, arguing that developments in the sector could contribute to increased crude oil production and economic activity.

Ogu said the movement would now intensify its grassroots engagements, with members expected to visit communities and explain what they regard as the benefits of Federal Government policies and projects to residents.

He maintained that the movement would continue its mobilisation across Rivers State as it seeks to build support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
