We’re A Responsible Govt, Gov Fubara Tells Muslim Community

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has said that he runs a responsible government that gives opportunity to everyone living in the state to thrive within the limits of the law, adding that it is the only way to advance the state.

Governor Fubara stated this while receiving Stakeholders of Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs on Sallah solidarity visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday.

The governor noted that his administration will continue to provide an environment for peaceful coexistence amongst different people and religions in the state to promote harmony and advance development.

“We, as a government, will continue to do all that is possible to make our coexistence in the state more friendly and accommodating. You can’t live alone. It is not only one religion that exists, we have a lot of them. The most important thing is accommodating each other. I am happy that in our state we have created that room for accommodation.”

While assuring the Muslim community of his continuous support, Gov. Fubara promised to look into the issues concerning building a central worship centre, cemetery and a worship centre at the Rivers State University after proper investigation, stressing that his government will certainly support them in building a State worship centre.

“We are doing it because the only way for us to control and reduce crime is when we have comfortable places were the word of God is preached and the people congregate to listen to the word.”

“So it is not a mistake to see churches or mosques. They help to reduce crime and instil the fear of God and some evil actions are limited compared to when people are not hearing the word. It means all that is available to them is the opportunity to commit crime.”

“So, we will make sure that we create a very conducive place for your worship because we know that at the end it will be a win-win for our dear State.”

Governor Fubara enjoined the people to ignore the criticism of his performance in one year, as what his administration has done within the short period speaks volumes including the recent social media rating of all first time governors in the country that placed the state quite high as number one.

Speaking earlier, the Rivers State Islamic Leader and Vice President General of Rivers State Council of Islamic Affairs, Alhaji (Amb). Nasir A. Uhor commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for protecting the interest of the Muslim community in the state which has promoted religious harmony and mutual respect for all.

He assured the governor of the continued support of the Muslim community in the state, promising that none of its followers will be part of efforts to distract the governor in the state as they will continue to pray for the success of his government.

Alhaji Uhor pleaded with the governor in building a befitting State worship centre, restoration of the Muslim cemetery and worship centre for Muslim students at the Rivers State University.
