The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday conducted its House of Representatives primary elections across Abia State, with several prominent politicians emerging as candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primaries Committee for Abia State, Barrister Erasmus Cishak, announced the results after the exercise, describing the primaries as peaceful, transparent and orderly.
Among those who secured the party’s tickets were Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who emerged unopposed for the Bende Federal Constituency seat, and Rt. Hon. Chinedu Enyinnaya Orji, who clinched the ticket for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.
Others include Rt. Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Chris Nkwonta for Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Uzo Azubuike for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, Udo Alozie for Ugwunagbo/Osisioma/Obingwa Federal Constituency, Uzoma Ihuka for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency, and Ikenna Ukwa for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
Cishak said election materials arrived around 11 a.m., while meetings were held with party stakeholders before the commencement of voting to ensure a credible and hitch-free process.
He commended aspirants, delegates and party supporters for their peaceful conduct and urged those who lost the primaries to accept the outcome in good faith and remain committed to the APC.

Speaking after his emergence, Benjamin Kalu expressed gratitude to APC members in Bende Federal Constituency for endorsing him to seek a third term in the House of Representatives.
Kalu said the overwhelming support from party members reflected confidence in his leadership and representation since he first assumed office in 2019.
According to him, the absence of opposition during the primary showed that the people desired continuity and wanted ongoing projects and legislative efforts sustained under the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The Deputy Speaker pledged to continue providing quality representation, effective lawmaking and attracting federal projects to communities across Bende Federal Constituency if re-elected in 2027.
He stressed that his current position and experience in the National Assembly placed him in a stronger position to attract more development to the constituency, noting that replacing a ranking lawmaker could slow progress.
Kalu also reaffirmed the commitment of APC lawmakers to supporting the policies and reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration for national growth and improved governance.
On concerns over internal disagreements within the party, the Deputy Speaker stated that the APC leadership had made it clear there would be no automatic tickets, adding that aspirants were encouraged to test their popularity through consensus arrangements or delegate primaries.
He expressed confidence that the APC would perform strongly in the 2027 general elections, insisting that his track record and relationship with the people would speak for him during campaigns.
